Students of Sugar Creek Elementary School, with the guidance of caring staff, parents, and community, are becoming responsible, lifelong learners, achieving personal worth, and meeting high expectations.
Principal's MessageWelcome to the Sugar Creek Elementary School website, home of the High Flying Eagles. We hope you will find this site informative.
Sugar Creek is an excellent school thanks to great support from our families, the community, our school board and a dedicated teaching and support staff. We have a learning environment where students feel at home and are surrounded by educators who have high expectations coupled with a child centered approach.
We try to give back to our community by sending care packages and letters to our troops, taking part in the county ReinDear Program, and collecting food for the local food pantries. We are also a Miracle School for Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.
Sugar Creek Elementary opened its’ doors in August 1988, which brought together students from East Union Elementary and Darlington. Our boundaries include the eastern portion of Union Township, all of Franklin and Sugar Creek Township and a small portion of Madison Township in Montgomery County. We currently serve 330 students in grades K-5.
We maintain a strong reputation for education, as noted by our ratings by our state as exemplary or commendable each year. Many of our students participate in academic competitions throughout the year that include Spell Bowl, Math Bowl, and Science bowl, all of which are state-wide competitions. Our Science Bowl Team won the Indiana State Competition in 2006 and has finished in the Top 10 in our division each year since that time. The traditional Spelling Bee and National Geography Bee are held each January.
All of the teachers at Sugar Creek Elementary are 100% “Highly Qualified”, under state and federal regulations. We are continuously trying to improve our school by setting staff goals each year and working on our School Improvement Plan as a guide. We take pride in watching many of our students become leaders in secondary schools through their involvement in many extra-curricular activities, by holding offices, and making the academic honor rolls.
We strive to keep our families informed by posting a monthly newsletter online. Our PTO also sends updates on activities and meetings on a regular basis. Additionally, we hold teacher-parent conferences two times a year.
