What can you do at home?
Reading:

  1. Ask your child to retell a story that you have read together. Look for your child recalling the beginning, middle and end of the story.
  2. Ask who were the characters. What was the setting?
  3. Ask you child to make-up a fun story to tell you. Make-up your own story and tell it to your child.
  4. Read a story with your child. Stop periodically and ask "What do you think will happen next?" Give your child time to predict the logical next step in the plot.
  5. Have your child point to the words as you read the story.

Phonics:

  1. Play "I spy" with your child for letters and words that you see while driving in the car together.
  2. Pick a letter of the day or week.  It is easiest to go through the alphabet in ABC order.
    • Practice writing the letter in upper and lower case.
    • Do a sound hunt for the letter sound. Identify items in your home that start with that letter sound. Have your child write a sign or label for these items to familiarize them with letters and words. Before you know it your whole house will be labeled!
Math:
  1. Count to 100 by 1's and 10's.
  2. Find shapes around the house or while in the car.
  3. Writing numbers 0-20
